In this third episode of Dialogues on Art & Wine, the focus turns to the unique nature of Jumilla’s land, countryside, people and wines.
As a tribute to them, artisan Noelia Alcántara, the youngest glass blower in Spain, presents Madre (Mother), a specially handcrafted glass item that symbolises the warmth of the Jumilla family of wine growers and the generosity and fertility of their land.
The series once again features Jumilla’s ambassador chef Pablo González-Conejero (3 Repsol “suns” and 2 Michelin stars), who this time explores the PDO Jumilla countryside, finding inspiration to cook a traditional Jumilla lunch for over 20 Jumilla PDO wine growers in an ancient plot of ungrafted Monastrell vines.
Pablo González-Conejero (Chef)
After joining sommelier María José Ayala for a wine tasting, during which he describes his enjoyment of the ritual of opening and tasting a Jumilla PDO wine, Pablo meets glass blower Noelia Alcántara, who introduces him to her craft and highlights the sustainability of glass, a key material in wine production and tasting.
María José Ayala (Sommelier)
Noelia Alcántara (Artist)
In her mission to create a work of art for the episode, Noelia gets her inspiration from the unique setting for the vineyard lunch, where she has the opportunity to meet PDO Jumilla growers and taste their wines. She subsequently recovers the growers’ empty wine bottles and melts them down in order to create an exclusive work symbolising the Jumilla PDO and its wine growers.
The final piece, a beautiful original hand-blown bottle set into an old Monastrell vine, embraces the origin and finality of the winemaking process.
