1 – El Nido, 2020 Nido, 95 Points This deeply hued blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Monastrell offers a bouquet of fruits of the wood, caramel and crumbled thyme and sage. It is bold on the palate, with opulent tannins supplying a framework to black cherry, Mission fig, chocolate-covered espresso bean and aniseed flavors with a soft hint of brambles. There is a gorgeous floral note on the satisfying finish. Gil Family Estates SRP $145
2 – Alceño, 2016 Inédita de Alceño 03 Monastrell, 93 Points Aromas of cassis, chocolate-covered espresso bean and a whiff of petrol set the stage for black cherry, elderberry, eucalyptus, milk chocolate and orange zest flavors with a hint of green bell pepper. Tannins come on strong at first but are gently replaced by well-balanced acidity. Viñedos Distribution SRP: $27
3 – Juan Gil, 2020 Blue Label Red Blend, 92 Points Dark garnet to the eye, this wine offers blackberry, butterscotch and sage leaf aromas. Polished tannins provide a backdrop to blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, anisette and nutmeg flavors. A refreshing vein of acidity plies the palate from first sip to the lingering finish. Gil Family Estates SRP: $35
4 – Finca Bacara, 2021 Time Waits For No One Black, 91 Points This black cherry-colored wine has a nose of cassis, blackberry and mocha.
